So you say you handpainted the textures - impressive. How exactly? I'm curious because I know you, or at least that's my impress, you seem to do a bit of everything. You've modeled and textured, do you also rig and pose - in this case Quinn's Phoenix skin?
Thanks This piece in particular I did without an AO bake to start from with my textures so it was all painted directly on the low poly. I use 3d coat and photoshop for painting my textures.
My job consists of sculpting a high poly model, baking down maps to start with a low poly diffuse and use that to hand paint the rest on the model. I use the already rigged models and animations to get the poses you see. I do not pose or rig them.
Phoenix Valor's model was done by Maokai -> [link]
Again, nice to get an insight into the making of everything. I must say I'm not familiar with the term "bake or baking" but I guess it merely consists of the task of taking the model's surface and spreading it out nicely on an image you can texture? As in preparing something - if i'm not entirely wrong?
Do you have a lot of different brushes than the default when you paint in Photoshop then?
- And nice to get in on Maokai, I did not know of him. Cool that he got a champion named after himself ^^
^^ Did he come up with the idea too, or don't you know that? (:
Yeah, I guess everything's been tidied up a bit more. The models really do look a lot nicer, more detailed and having their textures given a more painterly feel to them, like you're saying. More polished for sure.
Aha! I can see the obvious reason to do that trick, it saves energy, time and process power. But then again that's what most games strive or should strive for, making things run smoother. I'm sure Riot have learned to focus a lot on that during the making of League of Legends. - I have tried baking before I actually think. Would you say you're good at it?
Thanks! Haha, this skin was actually pretty rushed because there were last minute changes that I only had a week to change (which included about 50% of her model changing) ._. So I tried to keep the weapon simple with the time I had. XD
